Program Title: Communication Studies

Describe the proposed degree program change(s) in terms of how the changes differ from the program as currently approved and published in the latest WOU catalog (specify the latest catalog date).
Recently, Cat McGrew's COM 361: Health Literacy, Molly Mayhead's COM 328: Law and Popular Culture, and Nick Backus's COM 370: Communication Ethics and COM 405: Human Communication Theory were approved through the curriculum process as regular course offerings in Communication Studies. This program change form places these now-permanent offerings in the appropriate categories of the Communication Studies major so that students no longer need to submit course substitution forms to have the courses count toward their respective categories of the degree. How and when will the effectiveness of these changes be determined?
The effectiveness of the changes should be determined by a marked decrease in the number of course substitution forms coming from Communication Studies majors.
Effectiveness might also be measured by the balance among the three categories. We anticipate adding an additional media course to the third category in the future, should our search request be approved and successful.
