Program Title: Mathematics

Describe the proposed degree program change(s) in terms of how the changes differ from the program as currently approved and published in the latest WOU catalog (specify the latest catalog date).
We propose to change the degree requirements for the applied mathematics track of the Mathematics major. The changes are as follows: add Mth 344 to the requirements, add Mth 363 to the ¿Choose three¿ category, change ¿Three upper-division electives¿ to ¿Two upper-division electives,¿ and add ¿Ph 211 is to be completed as one of the LACC science electives.¿
These changes would 1) add rigor to the track, 2) include an important applied course (Mth 363) in the list of targeted electives, and 3) ensure that students in the applied track are exposed to Physics.

How and when will the effectiveness of these changes be determined?
As part of our Senior Project II (Mth 404) course, graduating seniors are interviewed. During interviews with students on the applied track, we will gauge, at least partially, the effectiveness of the changes to the applied track.
