Program Change:
P01328
Program Title: Psychology
Undergraduate
Describe the proposed degree program change(s) in terms of how the changes differ from the program as currently approved and published in the latest WOU catalog (specify the latest catalog date).
Add Gero 120 ( Medical Terminology), Gero 320 (Intro to Gerontology) and Gero 455 (Social Ties and Aging) as options for electives for the Psychology minor. Many students are now choosing to take Gerontology classes to supplement psychology course work. These courses will allow students more breadth of course work to gain knowledge of this important demographic and facilitate development of job related skills upon graduation.
Describe the reasons for making this change:
The psychology minor should be planned with a
psychology advisor. The psychology minor consists of 27 hours of courses with a PSY prefix, of
which at least 15 hours must be upper-division.
PSY 201 and PSY 202 are required for the
psychology minor. The following gerontology
courses can count as electives for the minor.
GERO 360 Cognitive and Physical Changes in
Aging
GERO 370 Aging and Mental Health
GERO 407 Seminar
GERO 430 Palliative Care and Chronic Illness
GERO 480 Alzheimer¿s Disease and Other
Dementias Management

For Dean Review only:
How and when will the effectiveness of these changes be determined?
In our annual senior survey we could ask questions regarding Gerontology course work taken to determine satisfaction with increased options within the major.
