Program Title: Military Science Minor

Describe the proposed degree program change(s) in terms of how the changes differ from the program as currently approved and published in the latest WOU catalog (specify the latest catalog date).
Drop the following courses:
- HST 482 America and the World Wars
- HST 483 Cold War America
Add the following courses:
- MS 305 American Military History (3)
- PS 440D Causes of War (3)
- Writing requirement:
- Any Writing course offered at WOU higher than WR 135 or any writing intensive course identified in the catalog
Describe the reasons for making this change:
- The MS 305 class is in alignment with the Army ROTC Cadet Command regulation. This class is required for ROTC cadets before commissioning.
- The PS 440D class was recommended by Dr. Mary Pettenger and fits into the MS minor requirement.
- The Writing requirement takes into account other recognized writing intensive courses and fulfills the MS Minor requirement.

How and when will the effectiveness of these changes be determined?
Students exposure to military history is the intended learning outcome. Replacing the general history choices with the targeted course in military history will immediately result in the desired program outcome.
