Program Change: P00888

Program Title: Geropsychology Minor
Undergraduate
Describe the proposed degree program change(s) in terms of how the changes differ from the program as currently approved and published in the latest WOU catalog (specify the latest catalog date).
The Psychology Division recently developed a Gerontology Major and created many new courses for that major. All of these courses are very appropriate for the Geropsychology Minor. We are proposing that all GERO courses be usable to satisfy Geropsychology Minor coursework. There are two sections of electives for the Geropsychology Minor. One section covers more psychological coursework (Elective Portion A) and the other is more interdisciplinary and less psychological (Elective Portion B). We therefore have chosen some of the more psychological GERO courses to be included Elective Portion A and the non-psychological courses to be included in Elective Portion B. GERO courses to be added to Elective Portion A 1. GERO 360 Cognitive and Physical Changes in Aging 2. GERO 370 Aging and Mental Health 3. GERO 430 Palliative Care and Chronic Illness 4. GERO 409 Practicum (up to 4 hours can count toward the major) 5. GERO 480 Alzheimer¿s Disease and Other Dementias Management GERO courses to be added to Elective Portion B 1. GERO 460 Retirement/LTC Housing for the Elderly 2. GERO 440 Health Care Operations 3. GERO 470 Regulatory and Clinical Operations of Long Term Care

Describe the reasons for making this change:

For Dean Review only:
How and when will the effectiveness of these changes be determined?
On our senior survey, we might ask how many Geropsychology Minors took Gerontology courses. Every year we survey our graduating seniors and one of the questions asks how satisfied they are with the availability of elective options. We will continue to track these responses in light of these curricular changes.
