Program Change:
P00915
Program Title: Crime Analysis Concentration
Undergraduate
Describe the proposed degree program change(s) in terms of how the changes differ from the program as currently approved and published in the latest WOU catalog (specify the latest catalog date).
This request is an attempt to add ¿program clarity¿ to an existing educational option within the Criminal Justice Major. Currently, Criminal Justice Majors now have the option of taking a structured course of study that leads to a BS in Criminal Justice, a Certificate in Crime Analysis, and a minor in Computer Science. However, wording in the current Course Catalog does not make this educational option clear. Consequently, we propose to add a formal title to the option ¿Crime Analysis Concentration, and to add a more complete description of the required course of study.
Describe the reasons for making this change:
The current description of the educational option is offered on page 54 of the 2011/2012 Course Catalog.
PROPOSED CATALOG DESCRIPTION:
(See attached document)
For Dean Review only:
How and when will the effectiveness of these changes be determined?
Members of the Criminal Justice Department have had a number of meetings with Dean Scheck regarding this topic. Simply stated, effectiveness will be determined by the number of students enrolled. In any case, we expect at least 25 new students each year. This number is limited by the number of seats available in computer labs. However, if student enrollment significantly exceeds this number, we would add additional sections.
