Program Change: P00920

Program Title: Political Science
Undergraduate
Describe the proposed degree program change(s) in terms of how the changes differ from the program as currently approved and published in the latest WOU catalog (specify the latest catalog date).
Political Science program changes. The ¿Electives in Political Science¿ portion of the Political Science major will be increased to 18 credits from 12 to promote a deeper understanding of the discipline. The ¿Electives in Social Science/Political Science¿ portion of the Political Science major will be reduced from 21 credits to 15 credits to allow for the greater specialization in Political Science without increasing the total size of the major. New specification within the major: The ¿Electives in Social Science/Political Science¿ must be chosen with the advice of the student¿s major adviser. This change will improve advising and direct students towards courses that better serve the student's long-term goals.

Describe the reasons for making this change:
2011-2012 Catalog: At the bottom of the Political Science major description. Electives in Political Science (12) Electives in Social Science/Political Science (21) PROPOSED REPLACEMENT LANGUAGE: Electives in Political Science (18) Electives in Social Science/Political Science to be chosen in consultation with major adviser. (15)

For Dean Review only:
How and when will the effectiveness of these changes be determined?
Political Science faculty will discuss the impact of these changes during weekly departmental meeting after the new rules take effect. Impact of the program can be valuated by the effect it has on student graduate school and professional opportunities and options.
