Program Change: P00928

Program Title: LACC
Undergraduate
LACC
Describe the proposed degree program change(s) in terms of how the changes differ from the program as currently approved and published in the latest WOU catalog (specify the latest catalog date).
This is a proposed change to the LACC requirement for literature. Currently each student is required to choose one course from ENG 104-109, FR 110 or GL 110. He or she may then choose a second course from ENG 104-109, FR 110 or GL 110, LING 210 or a 3-4 credit course in a modern language. The Humanities Division overwhelmingly voted to remove the phrase

Describe the reasons for making this change:
Current description from page 40 of the 2010-2011 catalog: Literature/Modern Language (7-8) Choose one course from ENG 104-109, FR 110 or GL 110. Choose another course from ENG 104-109, FR 110 or GL 110, LING 210 or a 3-4 credit course in a modern language. Proposed catalog description: Literature/Modern Language (7-8) Choose one course from ENG 104-109, FR 110 or GL 110. Choose another course from ENG 104-109, FR 110 or GL 110, or LING 210.

For Dean Review only:
How and when will the effectiveness of these changes be determined?
This proposal will tighten a loophole that allowed students to substitute courses that may or may not have achieved the objectives of our freshman literature classes.
