Catalog Description:
Continue applying skills and computer applications to projects reflecting contemporary practice in the field. Continue to work with issues of idea development, audience, message, continuity, and narrative. Use design development processes and aesthetic awareness in digital motion projects. Will include software instruction connected to project goals. May be repeated twice for credit. Prerequisite: A327.
Course Goal and Objectives:
This is the third course of a three-term upper-division sequence. Continue learning and applying skills to visual communication through time based (video, animation) delivery methods. Prepare portfolio presentations with the awareness of how portfolios communicate their current understanding of aesthetics and competency as designers. Specific term-by-term course goals and objectives will rely on expertise of incoming faculty.
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
Necessary course for proposed expansion of visual communication design major to include animation and time-based media, as requested by WOU administration. This is the first course of a three term upper-division sequence.
Faculty and facilities needed:
2011-2012: hire NTT faculty with motion, narrative, video, animation specialization to teach these courses during the launch of the new program.
Brief Course outline:
3 credit hours/6 contact hours. Specific term-by-term course outline course goals and objectives will rely on expertise of incoming faculty. Students will study methods of making digital motion/time based visuals. Topics may include: - use of video - digital cell animation - text and image in motion - stop-motion - and/or 3-dimensional modeling Students will work with ideas of development, audience, message, continuity, and narrative. Course will include software instruction connected to specific project goals.
