Course Goal and Objectives: Upon completing this course, students will be able to: ¿ Select and justify items, such as work samples and writing, for inclusion in a professional portfolio. ¿ Create a comprehensive portfolio. ¿ Demonstrate an ability to modify the portfolio to meet various employer needs (e.g., community, education, and conference work) ¿ Demonstrate their growth and development as an interpreter via the portfolio submission and defense. |

Brief Course outline: ¿ Week 1: Why Develop a Portfolio? ¿ Week 2: Portfolios as a reflection of learning and mastery ¿ Week 3: Portfolios as a demonstration of reflective inquiry. ¿ Week 4: Organizing & Implementing a plan for portfolio development ¿ Week 5: What should be included in a portfolio? What could be included? ¿ Week 6: How does one present &/or share their portfolio? With whom? ¿ Week 7: Alternative portfolio formats (e.g., electronic and web-based) ¿ Week 8: Sharing portfolio drafts with classmates ¿ Week 9: On-going portfolio development ¿ Week 10: Final portfolio defense practice. |
