Catalog Description:
Students develop teaching methods that infuse Demand-Control Schema (DC-S). They examine the ways in which DC-S may be infused into theory and practice courses and design curriculum.
Course Goal and Objectives:
Upon completing this course, students will be able to: 1. Create/deliver lesson plan(s) on the basic principles of DC-S. 2. Create assessment tool(s) for evaluating student comprehension of DC-S principles. 3. Create/deliver lesson plan(s) utilizing the construct for teaching theory of interpreting. 4. Create/deliver lesson plan(s) utilizing the construct for teaching meaning -transfer skills. 5. Create/deliver lesson plan(s) utilizing the construct for teaching ethical decision-making skills.
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
New Program

No facilities needed. Year 1, no new faculty. Year 2, one more tenure line faculty needed.
Brief Course outline:
¿ Week 1: How can DC-S be utilized in training interpreters? ¿ Week 2: where can DC-S be infused in to an existing curriculum? How can it be used when creating a curriculum from scratch? ¿ Week 3: DC-S framework for eliciting information and illuminating important ideas to students ¿ Week 4: DC-S forms ¿ Week 5: DC-S dialogue/supervision sessions for defining the task of meaning transfer ¿ Week 6: DC-S dialogue/supervision sessions for defining professional decision-making ¿ Week 7:DC-S dialogue/supervision sessions for identifying liberal vs. conservative controls ¿ Week 8: DC-S dialogue/supervision sessions for developing professional decision-making skills ¿ Week 9: DC-S dialogue/supervision sessions for developing creativity in controls ¿ Week 10: What have you identified as ways that you may employ dc-s in your work as a trainer/instructor?
