New Course Description:
Applies economic analysis to professional sports. Topics include: public financing of arenas and stadiums; the impact of professional sports on local, regional and national economies; labor issues such as free agency, salary caps, discrimination and ¿superstars¿; competitive balance, revenue sharing and market structure. Prerequisites: EC 201, 202, 315, or consent of instructor

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
One part of this class is to expose students to important past and current empirical economic research on professional sports. Most empirical research incorporates statistical analysis (e.g., multivariate regression), the kind of empirical techniques taught in EC 315 (and in other disciplines as well). If students complete EC 315 (or an equivalent) prior to enrolling in EC 333 they will be better able to understand economic research on professional sports as well as discover new areas in which to apply the ideas they learned in EC 315.
Students/Program affected:
Economics majors and minors, Sport Management minors
