New Course Description: Applies microeconomic concepts to managerial decision-making. Topics include the analysis of: demand, revenue and cost functions, forecasting models and techniques, market structures, pricing, technology, and government regulation. Prerequisite: EC 201, Mth 241 or BA 240, and MTH 243 or BA 243. |
Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.): Based on experience teaching this course the faculty have determined that students with EC 201, Introduction to Microeconomics, are adequately prepared to apply microeconomic theory without requiring EC 311, Intermediate Microeconomics. However, some students lack the algebraic and statistical skills required to represent optimization rules mathematically. Overcoming this shortcoming for these students require sufficient time that other topics cannot be covered in the course. Requiring these two courses will more clearly identify the skills required for student success. |
Students/Program affected: Economics majors and minors, Business majors and minors that choose this course as an upper division elective for their program. |
