Catalog Description: This course is an introduction to adult and young adult foreign language learning (EFL). In it, we will study the principles and processes that govern second language learning in adults and young adults, with attention to the processes of child language acquisition that are both similar to, and different from, foreign language acquisition. |
Course Goal and Objectives: The goals of the class include examining issues in EFL acquisition from various theoretical perspectives (linguistic, cognitive and socio-cultural), and review current research findings in instructed second language acquisition. Finally, the research findings will be interpreted in terms of their relevance for a principled approach to adopting second language teaching methodologies. |
