Current Course Description: In depth examination and analysis of the American court system. Students will be exposed to the new emerging ¿problem solving courts¿ and the school of legal thought referred to as Therapeutic Jurisprudence. |
New Course Description: An examination of various courts within the United States to include a review of criminal courts at both the state and federal level, civil courts, family court, juvenile courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court. This course will focus on case law and the judicial branch of government. Prerequisite: CJ 213, Introduction to Criminal Justice. |
Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.): This is a required course for all criminal justice majors. Many students who had not taken introductory course in criminal justice were unfamiliar with basic terms used in this course. Due to the focus on jurisprudence, students should have completed introductory course to familiarize themselves with foundations of criminal justice system to ensure greater success in this class. |
