This course will give an overview of CTE instruction in Oregon. Students will develop a familiarity with community partnerships, explore Oregon required standards, and become familiar with federal Perkins Legislation and corresponding state initiatives. CTE instructors will also develop an understanding of what it means to be an ethical educator in Oregon.
Course Goal and Objectives:
The student, upon completion of this course, will: 1. Develop overarching understanding of intended premise for career education as defined by The Carl D. Perkins Act of 2006. 2. Understand the importance of connecting what¿s being taught in the classroom to workplace application, specifically reading, writing, & math. 3. The importance of academic knowledge & skills as well as technical knowledge & skill application within the secondary and post secondary classroom. 4. Become familiar and recognize the importance of aligning with required Oregon academic standards and Oregon Skill Sets. 5. Recognize the role of the local advisory committee as program advocate, student support system, and industry conduit. 6. Develop understanding of the ethical educator as it pertains to ethics, confidentiality, collaboration, reflection, & personal presentation
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
This menu of CTE courses helps teachers in this area maintain professional certification. These courses, however, do not culminate in either a degree or certification. The are, however, required by TSPC and ODE. NOTE: the portal system would not let me move ahead without checking a "course level" option - so I checked graduate... but these are 800 courses... so are very clearly "other" and not Graduate or Undergraduate. -Mark Girod
