Catalog Description:
This course is intended to be in taken in sequence. Content and lessons will expand on ED 823. In addition to in-class behavior expectations, candidates will learn how they can be part of a larger school-wide system that will make a difference for all students. Additionally candidates will increase their understanding of student equity and discipline within the school environment.
Course Goal and Objectives:
Outcomes for ED 824 & 825: The candidate, upon completion of this course, will demonstrate the ability to: o Understand how to develop and maintain a classroom that is based on mutual respect and positive behavior expectations o Recognize essential features of classroom organization and understand how the school environment effects student behavior o Design, teach and adapt differentiated expectations and curriculum for all students to assure success for every learner o Recognize and be able to intervene prior to behavior escalation o Understand how to facilitate the diffusion of student anger or frustration and to re-establish a relationship in the process o Monitor and take appropriate action when misbehavior occurs o Understand student¿s rights through the examination of school, district and state policies o Apply principles of gender equity and racial justice, and apply principles of least restrictive environment for students with disabilities
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
This course is included in the Career and Technical Education series and is designed to help CTE Educators meet TSPC and ODE requirements. These courses do not culminate in either a degree or a professional certification.
