Catalog Description:
CTE candidates will explore Human Development as shaped by socio-cultural perspectives, cognitive understanding, institutions, and human relations. Activities within this course will provide candidates with a set of contexts in which educational problems can be understood and interpreted. This course will include lectures, large and small group discussions, and videos. There will be ample room for discussion of readings and lecture materials.
Course Goal and Objectives:
The student, upon completion of this course, will: Understand and utilize essential skills research that contributes to a deeper understanding of attributes (skills, attitudes, and knowledge) necessary to be successful in a rapidly changing society Learn and apply key concepts, models, and strategies related to different theories of learning including behaviorist, cognitive, and socio-cultural perspectives Learn and apply key concepts, ideas, and strategies related to adolescent development including cognitive, social, physical, and moral development. Particularly emphasis will be placed on adolescent identity development, motivation, and self-worth.
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
This course is included in the Career and Technical Education series and is designed to help CTE Educators meet TSPC and ODE requirements. These courses do not culminate in either a degree or a professional certification.
