Catalog Description:
This course will prepare CTE instructors in developing daily instruction to meet the needs of students in special programs. Policy and legal requirements will be examined for application within the school environment particularly pertaining to their own classroom. Discussion will center on school-wide systematic approaches, personal classroom instruction, and individual student accommodations to support a diverse group of learners.
Course Goal and Objectives:
The student, upon completion of this course, will: 1. Equitable Practices in Accordance to Policy and Legalities Understand and apply equitable practices, polices and legal requirements for special populations ¿ 504s, IEPs ¿ privacy laws and regulations ¿ graduation requirements 2. Systematic Approaches to Student Learning Understand RTI and how this systematic approach can support academic success for all student populations both in the school and classroom ¿ Manage independent work periods by utilizing a continuum of modified engaging assignments ¿ Collaborate to make sure all students receive the support they need to learn 3. Social and Development Needs and Skills Support developmental needs and skills for special populations which include: ¿ social skills & group interactions ¿ communication and collaboration ¿ transitions to the work place ¿ success in the work place
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
This course is included in the Career and Technical Education series and is designed to help CTE Educators meet TSPC and ODE requirements. These courses do not culminate in either a degree or a professional certification.
