Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
One of the ongoing and best supported criticisms of university-based teacher education is that students emerge without sufficient skills in assessment practices, use of proficiency-based practices, uses of assessment to facilitate P-12 student learning (Darling-Hammond & Bransford, 2005). The addition of an introductory curriculum and assessment course will help our candidates learn to more systematically connect their teaching actions to the learning of P-12 students.
