Std Teach Seminar II
Catalog Description:
This is the second Student Teaching Seminar in a three-term sequence. The focus of this course is to continue to support the growth and development of professionalism as it relates to teaching and learning. Student teachers will monitor their own progress as recorded in Formative and Summative Evaluations and the Assessment of Professional Qualities. Building from their experiences in Student Teaching Seminar I, Student teachers will further explore the Assessment Framework for a Proficiency-based Teacher Education Program, that are aligned with the standards set by Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Conceptual Framework of WOU¿s College of Education.
Course Goal and Objectives:
Student teachers will become increasingly competent in: ¿ Cross authorization understanding and support; ¿ Professionalism in the area of collaboration, honesty and integrity, respect, commitment to learning, emotional maturity, and leadership and responsibility; and ¿ Monitoring personal growth in terms of the WOU proficiencies.
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
Similar to the ED 404 Student Seminar I class, this second class in the series is premised on much of the same logic ¿ that we must provide space for our professional core students to discuss issues that are emerging in the field as well as reflect systematically on their own professional development toward the proficiencies that guide our program.
Faculty and facilities needed:
Existing capacity currently exists within the Division of Teacher Education and no unique facilities needs are required.
Brief Course outline:
Continuation of themes from ED 404 but in more depth and requiring more synthesis across experiences: Theme #1: Professional dispositions Theme #2: Professional proficiencies Theme #3: Connecting teaching and learning through the work sample process Theme #4: Synthesis across courses Theme #5: Self-assessment
