Catalog Description:
An introduction to the historical, substantive and theoretical evolution of human rights, the actors involved in producing, implementing and enforcing human rights, and examination of human rights cases.
Course Goal and Objectives:
1. define the concept of human rights 2. explain the history and processes by which human rights have been defined, and by whom 3. analyze the ability of the international community to define, implement and enforce human rights 4. analyze human rights cases to determine the most appropriate and effective means of protecting human rights 5. develop effective communication skills including listening, speaking and writing.
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
¿ Enhancement of the Political Science major and minor ¿ Permanent Status for a course that has been taught twice as a special topics course in the last three years ¿ Social Science, Public Policy & Administration and International Studies elective
Faculty and facilities needed:
Political Science instructor, standard classroom
