Catalog Description:
This course introduces students to crime scene and crash diagramming using computer aided design (CAD) software. Students will learn to measurement and sketch crime scenes and then reduce their notes to digital measurements using a ¿total station¿ laser devise. Students will also learn to prepare their work produce for professional presentations and court.
Course Goal and Objectives:
Course Objectives Students completing this course should be able to: ¿ Understand coordinate systems, reference points ¿ Define, measure and sketch the relevant elements a crime or crash scene ¿ Create to-scale diagrams from hand or digital measurements, using CAD software ¿ Prepare diagrams in a format that would be used as demonstrative evidence in court
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
This course introduces students to the emerging technologies now used in the law enforcement community.

Brief Course outline:
Course Calendar: Actual course content and schedule may vary from this outline to meet the needs of the class. The instructor will explain the rational for any variance of this schedule. Check Moodle each week for any additional class materials! Week Proposed Topic Assignment 1 General course overview; intro to the program screen, tools, layout, selecting and manipulating objects, view tools; measuring techniques Sketch, measure and label a room. Identify measuring technique used. Read materials as assigned. 2 Crime scene dynamics (possibly have a speaker); drawing objects, ortho angle, snaps Draw the sketch from previous assignment using Crime Zone. Read materials as assigned. 3 Lines, line types, editing options Draw a scene from measurements provided by the instructor. Read materials as assigned. 4 Text, placing symbols, Add text and symbols to last week's assignment. Read materials as assigned. 5 Placing bodies, dimensions; review for mid-term Add body and dimensions to last week's assignment. Read materials as assigned. 6 Hatch patterns and fills, printing Add hatches, fills. Read materials as assigned. 7 Crash scene dynamics (possibly have a speaker); Crime Zone streets, intersections Draw a road from measurements provided by the instructor. Read materials as assigned. 8 Intersections Add an intersection to last week's assignment. Read materials as assigned. 9 Adding tire marks, roadway evidence, dimensions Add tire marks, evidence and dimensions to last week's assignment. Read materials as assigned. 10 Term wrap-up, review for final. No assignment - FINAL EXAM

Comments: This offering is keeping current with skill sets to ensure greater marketability of our CJ graduates. Taught as part of the department's routine rotation of course options within the department to meet enrollment demand. No new cost over current practice.
