Current Course Description:
Diagnostic, remedial and corrective techniques in reading for the classroom teacher and Chapter I specialist. The technical nature of this course requires a great deal of knowledge about reading. Prerequisite: six hours of reading instruction or consent of the instructor.

New Course Description:
This course will explore current research in best practices in literacy assessment. Course content will include formative and summative assessments to determine students' literacy strengths and needs, as well as how to plan and carry out effective instruction to address students' literacy and language development. As part of this exploration, each participant will construct a case study for one reader with analysis and recommendations of instructional focus. Prerequisite: six hours of reading instruction or consent of the instructor.

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
New language reflects current research in the field and also allows students to be aware of embedded field experience required in course.
