Current Course Description:
The integration and application of materials, media and managements systems for K-12 reading programs in both classrooms and Title I programs will be examined. Prerequisite: three hours of reading instruction or consent of instructor.

New Course Description:
This course examines the role of the reading specialist and coach (as well as other leadership roles) as recommended and outlined by research and recommendations from professional organizations such as the International Reading Association. Special focus will include role definitions, program options, training and supervision of support staff, budgeting, and materials needed to meet state requirements in reading instruction. Prerequisite: This course is the first required course in the 9 credit reading practicum series and should be taken before the 6 credits of ED 609.

This course description reflects current state and national programs for reading specialists.
