Catalog Description:
This course addresses the principles of information access and delivery. These principles include designing policies and spaces to allow for intellectual, physical and equitable access to information, ideas and resources.
Course Goal and Objectives:
¿ Become familiar with available reference resources and services and know how to access and use them. ¿ Plan for the intellectual and physical access to information and ideas by learners. ¿ Understand that the library media specialist is committed to the right of intellectual freedom. ¿ Understand the policies, procedures and practices that support intellectual freedom. ¿ Understand the ethical and legal concerns surround the use of information. ¿ Explore the trends in information access and delivery.
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
The Ed Media Endorsement has been revised and updated. This course supports the standards from the American Library Association/American Association of School Librarian¿s Standards for Initial Programs for School Library Media Specialist Preparation (2003) which is based on the national guidelines for school library media programs from Information Power; Building Partnerships for Learning (1998). Faculty and facilities needed:
No additional faculty or facilities needed. Course will be taught by a qualified active or retired K12 Library Media Specialist.

¿ Promotion of resources ¿ Literature awards, promotions and activities ¿ Fiscal Management/Budgeting ¿ Resource sharing ¿ Legal issues, copyright, licensing ¿ Intellectual Freedom, Censorship, protecting collection ¿ Equal access for all learners: availability of collection services, facilities, and staff; ¿ Equal access for all learners: circulation hours, physical arrangement of the library media center. ¿ Library media center environment ¿ Ethical and legal concerns surrounding use of information ¿ Reference sources and services ¿ Trends in information access and delivery
