Catalog Description: Class will introduce students to the philosophy and methodology of designing online courses and teaching online. Topics include establishing a community online, fostering meaningful dialogue, facilitating group work, designing effective learning experiences, and assessing student progress. Students will learn skills for course construction in a variety of course formats, and will create a short course that uses tools within a course management system as well as resources available through the Web. |
Course Goal and Objectives: Through readings and activities, students will be able to: ¿ Discuss and apply best practices in online course design ¿ Develop a sense of community in an online course ¿ Create online lectures using a variety of methods ¿ Utilize a variety of assessment tools for evaluation of online assignments ¿ Locate educational resources in a variety of formats for use in online classes. ¿ Address accessibility issues within online courses ¿ Work comfortably with basic courseware tools |
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.): This course will meet elective requirements for the MSED Information Technology program. The class is aligned with ISTE National Educational Technology Standards and the Framework for 21st Century Learning, which form the framework for the MSEd Information Technology program. |
