Catalog Description:
This course will focus on accessing, organizing and analyzing spatial information that allows student to make informed decisions. Participants will prepare and present education-related projects using spatial technologies that focus on how to guide students in using technology to communicate information and ideas. Issues of ethical use and the powers of spatial technologies to persuade, extend communication, and inform will be addressed.
Course Goal and Objectives:
Through readings and activities, students will be able to: ¿ Be able to employ geospatial technologies¿Web-based GIS, ArcExplorer, Google Maps, Google Earth¿to promote geospatial thinking and problem solving that is appropriate for student skill and grade level and meets curriculum standards and needs. ¿ Understand and be able to discuss the social and ethical issue related to geospatial information and technology.
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
This course will meet elective requirements for the MSED Information Technology program. The class is aligned with ISTE National Educational Technology Standards and the Framework for 21st Century Learning, which form the framework for the MSEd Information Technology program.
