Justification for dropping the course: Justification for dropping the course: The removal of A 251 is part of a larger program change that will shift all studio art courses from 3 to 4 credits. This change will align our program with other art programs in Oregon. Art students are currently required to take two introductory courses in Ceramics (A250 and A251) before moving into 300-level courses. Merging the two introductory level courses will help our university better align itself with other Oregon universities who offer only one introductory course at the 200-level before advancing to upper division coursework. In addition, transfer students starting out in 300-level coursework at WOU are missing key information that we teach in our second introductory level course. This requires that we re-teach the information to transfer students at the 300-level which duplicates information and takes individual time away from WOU students. The reduction of one introductory level course supports an educational experience parallel with our comparator institutions. This consolidation will require that content from A251 will be incorporated into A250. |
