Catalog Description:
Class explores the use of assessment to make informed instructional decisions at the classroom, program, school, and district level. The difference between formative and summative assessment and the appropriate use of each will be examined. Students will apply the concepts learned to make informed instructional decisions based on available on-line assessment resources.
Course Goal and Objectives:
¿ Understand the difference between formative and summative assessment and identify what type of assessment is used. ¿ Become familiar with common online assessment resources. ¿ Understand standardized testing, its limits, and how it can be used effectively in program planning ¿ Understand the relationship between data and cause and effect in analysis and planning ¿ Read, analyze, and interpret formative or summative student assessment data to inform educational decisions.
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
This course will meet elective requirements for the MSED Information Technology program as well as the MAT technology component. The class is aligned with ISTE National Educational Technology Standards and the Framework for 21st Century Learning, which form the framework for the MSEd Information Technology program and underlie the technology requirement for teacher licensure.
