Abbreviation for Class Schedule(20 spaces)
HS MOD ART 1789-1914

Current Course Description:
Modern art from the French Revolution to the end of the 19th century within the context of the political, social, and aesthetic upheavals of that period.

New Course Description:
Advanced survey of the history of modern art, covering the major artistic movements and artists in Europe and the United States from the French Revolution to the eve of World War I. From Neoclassicism to Cubism.

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
This change is primarily a change in course title and description, with a very slight modification in the time period covered in this segment of the year-long sequence (which has been done partly to accommodate the treatment of recent examples of contemporary art that have extended the length of survey of the history of modern art). Both the change in title and description will help to provide more accurate information to students about the course content and chronological framework. It will also make the course description more consistent with the other courses in this sequence.
Students/Program affected:
This course is part of the various major options within the art program, but is not changing in any dramatic way that would impact students or programs. These proposed changes in title and description are designed merely to inform students more effectively about the nature of the 300-level art history courses the art department offers.
