New Course Description:
Introduction to matting, framing and hanging artwork. Professional ethics, contracts and gallery exhibition will be covered. Practical work hours contracted for each student in campus exhibit spaces; number of gallery work hours required dependent upon the amount of credit hours taken in a single term. The purpose of the course is to give students practical experience necessary for success in A418, the capstone gallery exhibition course. One credit is required for the art major. Limit of two credits may be applied to the studio art minor. May be repeated for elective credit. Prerequisites: A 115 and upper division standing.

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
The course number is changing to ¿clean up¿ our numbering system. Courses in the A X90¿s are dedicated to sculpture courses, and courses in the teens are more appropriate for foundation, practicum, gallery and capstone courses. In efforts to fit our art program into a 4-credit model, we decided this variable credit course would best serve the varying needs of our students if it were changed from 1-3 to 1-4 credits. Art majors will only need 1 credit of A318. Art minors who are interested in learning about gallery management can apply 2 credits to their minor. Any student can take the course as elective credit, with the A115 prerequisite (which is an LACC course option). A318 students learn skills in matting, framing, documentation, and hanging of artwork. Professional ethics, contracts, and gallery exhibition are also covered. Students are contracted gallery work hours based on credit-load taken.
Students/Program affected:
Art major, Studio Art minor, BFA in Art.
