A485 | B.F.A. Thesis Project: Painting | 6 - |
Abbreviation for Class Schedule(20 spaces) BFA THESIS PAINTING |
Current Course Description: A practicum comprised of 30 to 90 hours in an arts or cultural organization. The service learning should take place off-campus. Examples include (but are not limited to) the Oregon Arts Commission, Oregon Cultural Trust and the Salem Art Association. The student shall participate in the mentor or supervisor¿s duties, or complete an assigned task or project. Eligible for the RP grade option. Prerequisite: B.F.A. acceptance, not to be taken concurrently with A 486. |
New Course Description: Advanced research, concept development and art production in painting. Course requirements are contracted with the B.F.A. thesis advisor. May be repeated three times to fulfill BFA requirements. Prerequisites: A 315, A419 and acceptance to the B.F.A. program |
Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.): Since this course number is no longer needed for service learning (another proposal is in place to change the content of A412 to fit all of the Art Department¿s Practicum and Service Learning needs) it can be used for BFA purposes. The change in title is to designate concentration area of BFA study with the appropriate course number. The Art Department is aligning BFA course numbers by subject area. We are creating course numbers for each concentration area in the B.F.A. A445 will be used for Visual Communication Design, A455 for Ceramics, A475 for Printmaking, A485 for Painting and A495 for Sculpture. Designating B.F.A. Thesis concentration areas will help track student¿s enrollment. It will also allow the art department to schedule a meeting time that aligns with other painting courses. This will provide a designated meeting time with the student¿s B.F.A. thesis advisor, and also allow the faculty member to track how many students are using their studio classroom. |
Students/Program affected: BFA students. |
