Catalog Description:
Focuses on developing skills for creating podcasts and vodcasts using free or inexpensive tools. Students will also locate high-quality educational podcasts available through a variety of online sources and will explore uses of podcasts and vodcasts in education.
Course Goal and Objectives:
¿ Become familiar with a variety of free and inexpensive tools for audio and video production ¿ Develop skills for creating podcasts and vodcasts ¿ Design and produce educational podcasts ¿ Identify age-appropriate, high-quality educational podcasts for use in the classroom ¿ Develop educational activities using podcasting in the classroom ¿ Learn to manage podcast subscriptions on both the computer and on mobile devices
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
This course will meet elective requirements for the MSED Information Technology program as well as the MAT technology component. The class is aligned with ISTE National Educational Technology Standards and the Framework for 21st Century Learning, which form the framework for the MSEd Information Technology program and underlie the technology requirement for teacher licensure.

¿ Introduction to audio production tools including GarageBand and Audacity ¿ Creating an audio-only podcast including voice and music tracks ¿ Adding images to a podcast ¿ Introduction to video production tools, including iMovie and Moviemaker ¿ Creating video podcasts ¿ Publishing podcasts to websites, iTunes, and mobile devices ¿ Locating and evaluating educational podcasts online ¿ Subscribing to podcasts and managing subscriptions ¿ Identifying content-specific uses for educational podcasting ¿ Developing age-appropriate activities that incorporate podcasting in the classroom
