Current Course Description:
Composing music for film and television with emphasis on the industry, synchronization and timings, spotting, dramatic conceptualization, orchestration, recording techniques, styles, and genres. Underscoring projects will be performed, recorded, and critiqued. Includes weekly midi lab times for scoring productions, composition, and sound track transcriptions. Prerequisite: MUS 422/522.

New Course Description:
Composing music for media with emphasis on the film, TV, and video game industry, synchronization and timings, spotting, dramatic conceptualization, orchestration, recording techniques, styles, and genres. Underscoring projects will be performed, recorded, and critiqued. Includes weekly midi lab times for scoring productions, composition, and soundtrack transcriptions. This course may be used to satisfy 3 credit hours of the 2nd-year (undergraduate) theory requirement. Prerequisites: MUS 422 (undergraduates); MUS 522 (graduates) or by consent of the instructor.

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
The course content has not changed. It has, however, been added as the third term of a three-term sequence in media music production.
Students/Program affected:
This course continues to apply as an upper-division elective and theory elective for undergraduate music majors, as well as an elective for graduate music majors. There will be no affect on students or degree programs in Music.
