Current Course Description:
12-13 Catalog, p. 165 Analysis of the psychological and social impact of disability from an individual, family, community and environmental perspective. Developmental issues (e.g. childhood to adulthood lifespan) related to disability will be explored. Influence of the family and help¬ing professions will also be presented.

New Course Description:
This course will offer analysis of the psychological and social impact of disability from an individual, family, and community perspective. Experiential class activities will focus on building understanding and empathy while considering what influence Rehabilitation Counselors have on people who are Deaf and/or have disabilities. It will include analysis of how persons with disabilities are affected by the psychosocial influences, cultural and spiritual beliefs, attitudes, values and environmental factors, as well as the diversity issues of their environment. Prerequisite: consent of program coordinator

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
This course was originally a slash course (RC 432/532). Because undergraduates and graduate students bring different expertise to this class, a proposal is being made to change the slash course to separate RC 432 and RC 632 classes. The Rehabilitation Counselor Education program is also requesting this description change so that it more accurately reflects the content of the course. The prerequisite was also changed so it is in alignment with other RCE courses.
Students/Program affected:
RCE graduate students
