Course Prefix & Number Descriptive Title Credits/Hours
Soc. 310 Service Learning and Community Praxis 3 - 4

Abbreviation for Class Schedule(20 spaces)
Service Learning

Current Course Description:
Course will develop and examine the use of student volunteer projects in community service activities. Includes discussions of various concepts of service learning and coordination of student volunteer project.

New Course Description:

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
The Sociology Department simply wants to eliminate the prerequisites for this course, which were all sociology courses. We no longer believe that the prerequisites are needed for completion of service projects. The prerequisites were Soc. 223, Soc. 224, Soc. 225 or nine hours of sociology courses.
Students/Program affected:
Students using Soc. 310 as an elective will not have the burden of prerequisites. Community Service/Sociology Minor students who are required to complete Soc. 310, will also not have the burden of the prerequisites. These minor students will have greater flexibility in the choice of sociology courses for the 27 hour Community Service Minor.
