Catalog Description:
This course is designed for teacher candidates and early childhood studies majors to explore trends, issues, and tools related to the use of technology with young children from birth-4th grade of all abilities in inclusive settings. Students will also gain experience identifying, evaluating, and using a variety of technologies that are appropriate in a variety of areas. The evaluation and use of assistive technology to support learners of all abilities is an integral component of this course.
Course Goal and Objectives:
Students will be able to: 1. explore trends and issues in educational technology, early childhood education, early childhood special education, and assistive technology. 2. develop an understanding of the legislative mandates and governmental regulations/policies that affect young children, families, and programs for young children in inclusive settings. 3. demonstrate knowledge of national and state PK-4 technology standards. 4. identify organizations, publications, and other resources relevant to the field of ECE, EI/ECSE, and technology. 5. plan and implement how to incorporate technology into the inclusive setting in order to foster positive relationships. 6. acquire the knowledge and skills about the operation of instructional and assistive hardware, software, and other technology. 7. use technology to develop learning experiences and select appropriate instructional strategies for children in inclusive settings. 8. continue to identify themselves with the early childhood profession and will exhibit the attributes of a collaborative educational leader including the acquisition of appropriate knowledge, skills, and dispositions. Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
This course is part of a revision of the current Early Childhood teaching authorization and the proposed Early Childhood Studies major.

This course will be taught by faculty and/or adjuncts who are specialists in this field.
