Catalog Description: This course will focus on investigating learning environments for young children from birth-4th grade in inclusive early childhood settings (Head Start, public and private pre-K, child care, K-4 classrooms, etc.) and how to plan for children of all abilities. Students will spend time in the field observing and documenting classroom environments in inclusive early childhood settings. |
Course Goal and Objectives: Students will be able to: 1. list and explain the philosophical/theoretical backgrounds that lay the foundation for various learning environments in inclusive early childhood settings. 2. use developmental knowledge to explain and demonstrate how diversity and meeting the needs of all children can be integrated into a supportive relationship-based inclusive learning environment. 3. demonstrate a working knowledge of various assessments that measure quality of learning environments. 4. demonstrate knowledge and skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating a meaningful, challenging, and developmentally appropriate inclusive early childhood environment. 5. describe and analyze how culture, disability, language, and other factors may affect how family and staff interact and build relationships within a learning environment. 6. identify themselves with the early childhood profession and will exhibit the attributes of a collaborative educational leader including the acquisition of appropriate knowledge, skills, and dispositions.
