In addition to completing the ED 485 course requirements, graduate students in the ED 585 course will be required to complete the following: ¿ Additional assignment for graduate students: graduate students will do the following assignment: ¿ Design and conduct early childhood teacher interviews (interview day) based on research gathered by interviewing at least 3 early childhood administrators (Head Start, pk-4 principal, Child Care Director, ECSE Supervisor), collecting research from at least 3 peer reviewed journals regard leadership, hiring practices, retention, etc. Graduate students will develop an interview process, interview questions, and application forms based on what they have learned. Graduate students will organize and coordinate an "Interview Day" during Week 10 where undergraduate students will take part in interviews as potential early childhood teachers. Graduate students will write a final paper, which includes their research and reflection on the process. ¿ Additional readings and group discussion, with particular emphasis on developing a more sophisticated understanding of the course content, outcomes and pedagogies ¿ Graduate student discussion and writing will be assessed at a higher level of sophistication, argument, evidence, and conclusions than discussion and writing at the undergraduate level ¿ Graduate students will have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate students by leading discussion and teaching small mini-lessons

Current Course Description:
Covers the historical, philosophical and theoretical base of early childhood education. Emphasizes professional commitment and responsibility.

New Course Description:
Students in this course will develop knowledge and competencies in the area of educational leadership, including development and administration of inclusive early childhood programs for children birth-4th grade, professionalism, ethics, and social policy.

Alignment with new Early Childhood Studies major and EC teaching authorization program revisions
Students/Program affected:
