Abbreviation for Class Schedule(20 spaces) Theory and Pedagogy

Current Course Description: Course dealing with current theories and practices in teaching writing in English Language Arts and other subject areas in the public school. Prerequisites: WR 135 (or equivalent) and LING 315 or consent of instructor.

New Course Description: Study of current theories and practices in teaching writing for grades 5-12 and college. Provides an introduction to writing process, assignment design, and assessment. Recommended for students planning to attend graduate school (English or MAT). Prerequisites: WR 135 (or equivalent) and LING 315 or consent of instructor.

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.): WR 440W/540 is no longer required for Education majors. Thus, the new title and description reflect the change in class focus: an elective course for middle/secondary education majors or English majors who may choose teaching as a profession or attend graduate school, where teaching introductory college writing classes is common for tuition reduction.
