Catalog Description:
This laboratory meets twice weekly. You will study a number of different reactions including nucleophilic substitution, hydration, oxidation-reduction, Diels-Alder, and the use of the Grignard reagent. The significant portion of this term will be spent learning how to identify unknown organic substances. At the end of the term, you will be given three unknown organic compounds which you will identify using qualitative organic testing. Students enrolled in Ch338 must also be co-enrolled in Ch336. Prerequisites: A passing grade in Ch335 and Ch337.
Course Goal and Objectives:
To learn a number of different reactions including nucleophilic substitution, hydration, oxidation-reduction, Diels-Alder, and the use of the Grignard reagent. The significant portion of this class will be spent learning how to identify unknown organic substances. At the end of the term, three unknown organic compounds will be identified using qualitative organic testing.
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
This change will brings WOU courses into alignment with other OUS institutions, and alleviate transfer problems.
