Catalog Description:
Students will engage with technology common in the field of interpreting. They will learn how to use various technologies in their work as pre-professional and professional interpreters focusing on skill development, self-reflection, and actual service delivery via technology.
Course Goal and Objectives:
Upon completing this course, students will be able to: ¿ Identify various technological tools for communication across distances ¿ Use technology to create and assess individual work samples ¿ Assess the needs of a given situation and match appropriate technology to meet the needs of the scenario ¿ (Graduate) Develop goals for technological skill development to apply to their coursework and development as professional interpreters and future educators.
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
The MAIS is a distance program. After the first cohort has completed the program, we have determined that students need to develop a command for the use of technology in order to be successful in their coursework throughout the program. Undergraduate students in ASL/English Interpreting are also taking courses online, as well as sharing their work via video online. Thus, their need for a course that provides a foundation in technological resources.

Brief Course outline:
Module 1: What technology is available on the market (free or paid)? What type of equipment is necessary to utilize this technology? Module 2: How can technology be harnessed to meet our developmental needs for self-assessment and work sample preservation? Module 3: How can technology bridge the gaps in distance between subject matter experts and learners? Module 4: How will I engage with technology on a regular basis now that I know what I know?
