Catalog Description:
The proseminar is designed to provide a foundation for inquiry about interpreting studies issues through critical reading, analytical writing, and thoughtful, collegial discussion. Students will receive general training in a variety of skills relevant to graduate work in interpreting studies, such as technical writing, sampling and experimenting with technology used during the program, using library resources to locate literature, using APA style guidelines, and exploring IRB approval for research involving human subjects.
Course Goal and Objectives:
Students will: 1. Acquire general knowledge about interpreting studies, APA style guidelines, and the IRB 2. Identify several primary research outlets/resources for interpreting studies 3. Become familiar with professional interpreting studies associations 4. Explore and critique interpreting studies research 5. Present online and face-to-face sampling and experimenting with technology that will be used throughout the course of study
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
This course provides primarily online students the opportunity to sample, explore, and use information, technology, and campus resources that will be applied throughout the program. By introducing these in one of the first courses it will alleviate some of the frustration students experience while studying from a distance.
