New course Undergraduate

First term offered : Fall 2013
Course Prefix&Number Descriptive Title Credits/Hours
TA 359 Production Fabrication 1 - 4

Abbreviation for Class Schedule(20 spaces)
Prod Fabrication
Catalog Description:
Scenery, costume or properties construction and scenic painting for main stage or studio theatre productions. May be repeated for credit. Eligible for the RP grade option. Prerequisite: consent of instructor
Course Goal and Objectives:
Students will develop practical craft and scenic art skills through participating in the planning, construction and performance phases of departmental productions. Students will get detailed feedback from faculty and staff mentors through out the production process.
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
The faculty wish to do away with the generic upper division production course TA 353. Replacing TA 353 with specific upper division production credits, the existing TA 354 Production Design and TA 355 Production Management and the proposed TA 357 Production Performance, TA 358 Production Direction and TA 359 Production Fabrication, will encourage students to recognize and focus on specific production areas.
Faculty and facilities needed:
Existing production framework.
Brief Course outline:
Students will be appointed to work with a faculty or staff mentor in a scenic, costuming, or properties fabrication role or as a scenic artist for a main stage or studio production. These assignments will be made by the faculty during the season planning process. Once the production process starts, students will participate in design meetings and pre-rehearsal planning sessions, the six to eight week build process, technical rehearsals as appropriate and are responsible for monitoring all performances. Students receive feedback throughout the construction and performance process. Credit will be based on the commitment level required.
