Indoor Soccer
Catalog Description:
Introduction to the basic skills and strategies of indoor soccer/futsal. The individual skills of kicking, passing, shooting, receiving the ball, advancing the ball, dribbling, heading, and defensive techniques will be covered as well as playing rules, team formation, set plays/restarts, attacking, and defensive concepts. May be repeated for credit up to 6 credits.
Course Goal and Objectives:
1. The student will demonstrate understanding of the basic skills, technique, rules, and strategies through participation in drills and games. 2. The student will be actively involved by participating in drills, games, discussions, demonstrations, and helping with equipment.
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
We have been offering Indoor Soccer as a special topics activity class for several years. It is a popular and appropriate lifetime activity course that meets that LACC requirment. With our challenging weather, Indoor Soccer is our best option.
Faculty and facilities needed:
Already have the instructor, equipment, and faciltiy access.
Brief Course outline:
Week 1 Introduction, rules, class organization, individual skills and games Week 2 Individual skills, receiving the ball, kicking, passing, shooting and games Week 3 Advancing the ball, dribbling, heading, defensive techniques and games Week 4 Team concepts, attacking, defense, team formation, set plays and games Weeks 5-10 Team concepts continued, games and tournaments
