Current Course Description:

Positive lifestyle and behavior changes related to fitness, health and wellness will be emphasized throughout the course. May be repeated for credit up to six credits.

New Course Description:
This course provides an introduction to the Pilates Method of Body Conditioning. The Pilates principles of breath, concentration, control, centering, precision, and flow/rhythm will be practiced while performing a learned series of preparatory and beginning level mat exercises. Exercises performed in class focus on postural awareness, proper use of breathing, stabilizing the core, and increasing muscular strength and flexibility. Exercise modifications are provided for students to work at individualized levels. May be repeated for credit up to six credits.

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
Students are very interested in a second Pilates course that goes beyond beginning concepts and postures. We are developing an Intermediate Pilates course and so we are renaming this course "Beginning Pilates" and revising the course description to clearly delineate the beginning course from the Intermediate course.
Students/Program affected:
This activity course is one of many available to students that meets the 2cr LACC Physical Activity requirement and builds lifelong skills related to persoanl health and wellness.
