Catalog Description:
Mus 382 (Digital Music Production) provides an introduction to Apple¿s Logic Pro 9 software. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the software¿s layout and key features, including an overview of Logic Pro¿s vast array of effects plug-ins and software instruments. Students will also learn specific recording, editing and mixing techniques common to all DAWs (digital audio workstations). The class meets in the music department's recording studio, offering students hands-on training in a modern recording facility.
Course Goal and Objectives:
* basic understanding of Logic Pro functions and architecture * knowledge of common Logic Pro key-commands * ability to record broadcast-quality spoken voice * basic understanding Logic¿s EXS24 sampler and other instruments * basic understanding of Logic plug-ins * ability to utilize advanced track automation * knowledge of stereo recording techniques * ability to mix basic multi-track project * improved audio editing skills
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
MUS 381 is one of four the courses that comprise the music department¿s Audio Production sequence. It was introduced last year under emergency course approval after Dr. Freymuth joined the full-time faculty.

Brief Course outline:
Each class will begin with a short lecture covering key features of Logic Pro software, followed by a recording session in which these features are demonstrated in real-time. During the course of the term students will have a series of projects that require them to record, edit, produce and mix music with Logic 9.
