Catalog Description: Prerequisite: MUS 381 or 382 Advanced Music Production provides an overview of the primary techniques of music production from 1950 to the present day, as well as an introduction to some of the most influential record producers and record labels of the past fifty years. Each week a particular era of music production will be discussed, followed by a demonstration of key production techniques. The class meets in the music department's recording studio, offering students hands-on training in a modern recording facility. |
Course Goal and Objectives: * familiarity with major developments in recording technology c.1900-2010 * understanding of how specific technologies influence the production process and aesthetics of recordings * familiarity with the ¿sound¿ of selected record producers and record labels * understanding of the stages of production (pre-production to mastering) * development of mixing and editing skills |
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.): MUS 383 is one of the four courses that comprise the music department¿s Audio Production sequence. It was introduced last year under emergency course approval after Dr. Freymuth joined the full-time faculty. |
