Current Course Description:
Focus on the application of Geographic Information Systems to relevant problems in the Earth Sciences. Emphasis is placed on the use of computer technology in analyzing spatial and temporal relationships of geologic systems. Three hours of lecture and active learning per week. Offered alternate years. Prerequisites: introductory Earth science course, or consent of instructor; recommended ES 341.

New Course Description:
Focus on the application of Geographic Information Systems to real-world problems in the Earth Sciences. Emphasis is placed on the use of computer technology in analyzing spatial and temporal relationships of geologic systems. Four hours of lecture and active learning per week. Prerequisites: ES342 or consent of instructor.

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
Modifications necessary to realign course with development of a new Geographic Information Science minor and post-baccalaureate certificate program. ES492/592 will serve as a third term, upper division, advanced elective in Geographic Information Science.
